Licensed Clinicians - All 50 States
Every ESA and PSD evaluation is conducted by a clinician who holds an active license in your state. Here is how our network works and how you can independently verify any clinician who issues your letter.

How Our Clinician Network Works
The Supportive Pet connects patients with state-licensed mental health professionals for ESA and PSD evaluations. Every clinician in our network is verified before joining and re-verified annually.
State-Licensed
Every evaluating clinician holds an active license in the patient's state of residence. Telehealth evaluations for ESA/PSD documentation require an in-state license under most state telehealth laws.
NPI-Verified
Every clinician holds a National Provider Identifier (NPI) registered with the CMS NPPES registry. Landlords and housing providers can verify any clinician's credentials independently at npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov.
Good Standing
We verify that each clinician has no disciplinary actions, sanctions, or license restrictions on file before they conduct evaluations. Annual re-verification is performed for all active clinicians.
HIPAA Compliant
All clinical communications and records are handled under HIPAA. Your health information is never disclosed to your landlord - they receive only the letter, which contains the information required by HUD guidance.
Featured Clinician: Dr. Jonathan Chance Miller, MD
Jonathan Chance Miller, MD
Board-Eligible Psychiatrist · Ivy League-Trained · Bilingual (EN/ES)
Dr. Miller is the primary evaluating clinician for The Supportive Pet. He holds active medical licenses in 25 states (listed below) and conducts the majority of telehealth ESA and PSD evaluations. For patients in states where Dr. Miller does not hold an active license, The Supportive Pet matches them with an equally qualified, state-licensed LMHP.

The following states are covered by Dr. Jonathan Chance Miller, MD (NPI 1235623372). License information can be verified through each state's medical licensing board or through the NPPES registry.
Network Clinician Coverage - Remaining 25 States
For patients in states not covered by Dr. Miller's personal license, The Supportive Pet matches evaluations with a state-licensed mental health professional (LMHP) who holds an active license in that state. Network clinicians meet the same verification standards as Dr. Miller: active license, no disciplinary history, NPI registration, and annual re-verification.
Every letter - regardless of which clinician issues it - includes the issuing clinician's full name, credential, NPI number, state license number, and the state of licensure, allowing landlords to independently verify the letter through the NPPES registry and the relevant state licensing board.
How to Independently Verify Your Clinician
You do not have to take our word for it. Every clinician's license is publicly verifiable through official government databases. Here is how:
Check the NPPES Registry
Visit npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov and enter the NPI number printed on your letter. This confirms the clinician's name, credential type, and practice state.
Check the State Licensing Board
Each state maintains a public database of licensed health professionals. Search by the clinician's name and license number (printed on your letter) to confirm their license is active and in good standing.
Contact Us for Landlord Support
If your landlord wants to verify the letter directly, our team handles that communication at no charge. Contact our support team with your order number and we will provide a verification call or written confirmation to your landlord.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know my clinician is licensed in my state?
Every evaluation is matched to a clinician who holds an active license in the state where you reside. After your evaluation is completed, your letter will include the issuing clinician's name, NPI number, and state license number. You can independently verify this information at npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov and your state's medical licensing board website.
Will I always see Dr. Miller, or could it be another clinician?
Dr. Jonathan Chance Miller, MD, is our primary evaluating clinician and covers 25 states directly. If you reside in one of the remaining 25 states where Dr. Miller does not hold an active license, you will be matched with another qualified, state-licensed LMHP in our network who meets the same verification standards - active license, NPI registration, no disciplinary history.
Can my landlord verify the clinician's license?
Yes. Every letter includes the issuing clinician's NPI number, which your landlord can look up for free at npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov. The registry is a federal government database maintained by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and confirms the clinician's name, credential, and practice information. If your landlord wants additional verification support, our team can provide a written confirmation at no charge.
What does "telehealth evaluation" mean and is it legally valid?
A telehealth evaluation is a clinical assessment conducted remotely - typically via video or secure questionnaire - by a licensed mental health professional. Under HUD guidance on the Fair Housing Act, an ESA letter must come from a licensed mental health professional who has an established patient relationship. Our clinicians conduct genuine clinical assessments to establish that relationship, making the resulting letter legally valid documentation for housing accommodation requests.
What credentials does a "licensed LMHP" in your network have?
LMHP stands for Licensed Mental Health Professional. Our network includes Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs), Psychologists (PhD/PsyD), and Medical Doctors (MDs) with a psychiatric or mental health specialty. All hold active state licenses in the state where they evaluate patients and are registered in the NPPES national provider database.
