HUD guidance explicitly warns landlords they may reject letters from internet services that provide documentation "without a meaningful assessment." Every letter we issue follows a genuine clinical evaluation of your mental health history, functional impairment, and the therapeutic nexus between your condition and your emotional support animal. Are your ESA letters legitimate and legally valid?
Yes. Every ESA letter we issue is signed by a licensed mental health professional who holds an active license in your state. Our evaluations follow HUD's FHEO-2020-01 guidance, which requires a meaningful clinical assessment and a documented therapeutic nexus between your disability and your emotional support animal. Letters include the clinician's name, license number, license type, state of licensure, and the date of evaluation - all elements housing providers and fair housing attorneys look for when verifying legitimacy. We do not issue automatic approvals or letters without a genuine clinical review.
How is The Supportive Pet different from other ESA letter services?
Three things separate us from the majority of ESA letter services online. First, we use state-licensed clinicians - many services route all letters through a single clinician licensed in only one state, which may not be valid in your state depending on telehealth regulations. Second, our evaluations are genuine clinical assessments, not questionnaire-based automatic approvals. Which mental health conditions qualify for an ESA letter?
Any condition listed in the DSM-5 that substantially limits a major life activity can qualify for an ESA letter under the Fair Housing Act. Common qualifying conditions include anxiety disorders, major depressive disorder, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, panic disorder, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and schizophrenia. Qualifying is not about having a specific diagnosis - it is about whether your mental health condition creates a disability and whether your emotional support animal provides therapeutic benefit for that condition. A licensed clinician makes this determination through the evaluation process.
How quickly will I receive my ESA letter?
Most letters are delivered within a few hours of completing your evaluation. Our average delivery time is under 4 hours. For urgent situations - same-day landlord deadlines or eviction notices - contact our support team after submitting your evaluation and we will prioritize your case. Letters are delivered as a PDF to your email address and stored in your account for easy access and reprinting.
Do you provide ESA letters for all 50 states?
Yes. Our clinician network spans all 50 states. Dr. Jonathan Chance Miller, MD (NPI 1235623372) is licensed in 25 states and conducts the majority of our telehealth evaluations. For states where Dr. Miller does not hold an active license, we match you with an equally qualified LMHP who is licensed in your state. State-licensed clinicians are required under most state telehealth laws and California's AB 468 specifically; letters from out-of-state clinicians may not meet your state's documentation requirements. What happens if my landlord rejects my ESA letter?
Contact our support team immediately. Landlord rejection is our highest-priority case type. Our team will contact your landlord directly with documentation of your Fair Housing Act rights, relevant HUD guidance on reasonable accommodation requests, and the legal requirements around ESA accommodation under federal law.
